Scarecrow Row Design Contest
INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS ARE INVITED TO SUBMIT DESIGNS!
Is there a marginalized or underrepresented aspect of our community that brings you joy? Let's celebrate it together!
We're calling for design submissions for a Scarecrow Row display that showcases a cool part of Oakwood's diverse community:
-
A group that you're proud to belong to
-
A holiday that your family celebrates
-
An awareness month that you want everyone to know about
-
Anything you love and appreciate about your identity and how it adds to our community!
We encourage designs that reflect a lived experience, challenge stereotypes, expand how others understand a community, and/or celebrate the beauty of an identity that is sometimes overlooked or misunderstood.
The OIC will sponsor the materials and art supplies needed to create the winning display and help the winning designer assemble the display on the morning of Sunday, October 11, 2026!
HOW TO ENTER:
Send us a sketch and written description of your design at communications@oakwoodic.org by Friday, September 4, 2026.
Include a brief artist’s statement (100–300 words) explaining the specific aspect of the community that your design highlights and how your design expresses or explores what's great about it.
Share ideas about materials and methods that could be used. Keep in mind that the display will be outdoors exposed to all weathers for several weeks! We may wish to work with you to edit your design to make it more weatherproof, more practical, and/or more affordable to build.
Anyone who lives, works, visits, or passes through Oakwood is eligible to enter. Please do your best to be available on Sunday, October 11 for the assembly and unveiling of the winning display!
