About the Event
"Books for Black children are hard to find" is a common statement in our society. Black children need to see faces that look like theirs and stories about people that look like them written by people that look like them.
The Black Child Book Fair is a not-for-profit organization that promotes African American focused reading materials in urban communities nationwide to enrich the educational, emotional, developmental and social needs of youth with diverse backgrounds.
The Black Child Book Fair was created by Darryl Harvey in 2019. Black parents told him that it was difficult to find books for children of color several times over a period of a few years, so Mr. Harvey organized the first event to an elated crowd in Chicago.
Since its debut the Black Child Book Fair has appeared in over 15 cities and has plans to increase its national audience as well as international.
