History of the Miamisburg Mound

The Miamisburg Mound, just about a mile southeast of downtown Miamisburg, is the largest conical earthwork of its kind in the world. It’s about 300 feet wide, 877 feet around, and stands roughly 65 feet tall. Made from an estimated 54,000 tons of earth, it was built by the Adena people over many years. The mound likely served as a place for ceremonies and burials, and may have even been used as a signaling spot.
