About the Event
Purpose: A Braver Angels Red / Blue workshop brings together a small group of conservative-leaning and liberal-leaning citizens (or “reds” and “blues”) for a series of exercises designed to help participants learn about the political “other”, reduce stereotyped thinking, and discover common values where they exist. NOTE: This is not a debate and not an attempt to get anyone to change fundamental beliefs. It is an opportunity to be heard and to hear from our neighbors with whom we share a community and a country. Workshop Goals: Through active participation in this workshop, you will:
- Better understand the experiences and beliefs of those on the other side of the political divide.
- Share your experiences and beliefs to help the “other side” understand your perspectives.
- Seek out areas of common ground in addition to acknowledging and respecting differences.
- Gain insights that might help heal the increasing polarization in our community and the nation.
You can register to attend as either a participant or an observer. To be a participant, it is important that you are available and committed to attend for the whole day. As an observer, you may attend for all or part of the day to listen and learn depolarization strategies without contributing to the discussions.
The Oakwood Inclusion Coalition will provide a light breakfast and a box lunch.
